Grain prices have reached record highs and oil prices are flirting with $100 a barrel. At first blush, this could seem daunting, but Ms. Woertz sees opportunity.

The high oil prices mean the world is more conscious about energy security, Ms. Woertz says. That translates into greater demand for corn-based ethanol and soy-based biodiesel -- both key products that ADM makes. And while the higher grain prices have cut into biofuel's profitability, it has prompted farmers to plant more acreage, which means more grain to handle and ship across the Corn Belt and overseas.

But with more mouths to feed as the population grows, there are growing worries about the long-term sustainability of farming for fuel instead of food. Ms. Woertz envisions expanding ADM's biofuels production beyond corn and beans.

Court delay keeps Port Phillip Bay dredging in limbo

A COURTROOM saga over the future of Port Phillip Bay's controversial $1 billion dredging project will drag on for at least another 10 days after the case was adjourned today.

The matter will return to court on March 3 after environment group Blue Wedges requested time to change the legal arguments of its case.

The group is challenging the legality of federal Environment Minister Peter Garrett's approval of a huge dredging project to deepen Melbourne's shipping channels.

Dredging began two weeks ago under strict conditions imposed by the court, pending the hearing.

But the Port of Melbourne Corporation (PoMC) will seek to have those conditions relaxed in a separate hearing this afternoon, on the grounds that Blue Wedges has caused the delay by seeking to amend their original application to the court.

JP: Right, Tony Banks was sitting here five minutes ago, and he said that you were behaving inexcusably, that you had deliberately chosen to go to that part of London and to exploit the latent racial tensions there. GG: You are actually conducting one of the most - even by your standards - one of the most absurd interviews I have ever participated in. I have just won an election. Can you find it within yourself to recognise that fact? To recognise the fact that the people of Bethnal Green and Bow chose me this evening. Why are you insulting them? JP: I'm not insulting them, I'm not insulting you GG: You are insulting them, they chose me just a few minutes ago. Can't you find it within yourself even to congratulate me on this victory? JP: Congratulations, Mr Galloway. GG: Thank you very much indeed.
